Uniper sues Gazprom for 11.6 bln euro losses over undelivered gas
MOSCOW, Nov 30 (PRIME) -- German energy giant Uniper has filed a lawsuit against Russian gas giant Gazprom to Stockholm’s international arbitration court seeking to recover 11.6 billion euros losses caused by the undersupply of gas, Uniper said in a statement on Wednesday.
Uniper demanded that Gazprom compensate for the losses incurred by the undersupply of gas since June when the Russian company cut the supply volumes over problems with the return of a Siemens gas turbine for the Nord Stream gas pipeline.
Uniper was forced to buy additional volumes of gas at excessive prices to fulfil obligations to its clients and has spent at least 11.6 billion euros on the replacement since June, the company said.
The company also expects that its expenses on additional purchases of gas will be rising until the end of 2024.
Russia’s Gazprom Export said in a statement that it is studying the received claim and does not recognize the violation of contracts and the legality of Uniper’s claims for losses.
